About this route
History & Origins The Early Days • Originally known simply as the "Mumbles Mile" — a stretch of Tetley's and Courage pubs along the old road out of Swansea. • Roots trace back to Mumbles Punchbowl Days when workers from the local canning and oyster industries would stop at pubs walking between Swansea and the headland. • Oystermouth (the Mumbles) has served holiday-makers since Victorian times, so the route developed around railway-era visitor traffic.
