History & Origins The Early Days • Newquay began as a small fishing village and grew into a major seaside resort from the mid-19th century when railway access made it reachable from London and the Midlands. • Its position on the north Cornwall coast gave it a distinct identity from the south-coast Victorian resorts; fishing pubs and harbour inns dominated well into the 20th century. Student Adoption (1990s–2000s) • With Truro & Penwith College expanding its Newquay c
