History & Origins The Early Days • Originally known as "The Headingley Mile" — a mile stretch of Tetley's pubs leading into Leeds city centre • Roots trace back to farmers' tractor rides into Leeds on market days, stopping at pubs along Otley Road • Connected to the 1964 Licensing Act which allowed Otley pubs to open extended hours on livestock market days (Mon/Fri, 10am-4pm) • Tetley Brewery's dominance in Yorkshire meant nearly every pub on the route served Tetley's Bit
